چکیده

Snakebite envenoming is a serious and life-threatening but neglected problem in the tropics. The focus Indian subcontinent usually on cobra (Naja naja), common krait (Bungarus caeruleus), Russell’s viper (Daboia russelii), saw-scaled (Echis carinatus). polyvalent antivenom contains hyperimmunized horse antibodies against only these 4 species. However, regional intraspecific variations are important envenomings, leading to marked differences clinical presentation response available antivenom. Echis carinatus sochureki, subspecies of carinatus, has been linked morbidity Thar Desert regions Rajasthan, although consistent reports lacking. We report patient with prolonged venom-induced consumption coagulopathy owing sochureki who did not respond Jodhpur, India. Features local hemotoxic resolved after week supportive care. venom shown be different from terms composition vitro neutralization by Clinicians tropical desert must suspect setting nonresponsiveness This will help optimize use patients, preventing potentially associated reactions. Because usefulness appears limited this setting, there an urgent need advocate for region-specific or monovalent area. causing considerable mortality morbidity.1Suraweera W. Warrell D. Whitaker R. Pre-Clinical Assays Predict Pan-African Echis Viper Efficacy for a Species-Specific Antivenom

BACKGROUND Snakebite is a significant cause of death and disability in subsistent farming populations of sub-Saharan Africa. Antivenom is the most effective treatment of envenoming and is manufactured from IgG of venom-immunised horses/sheep but, because of complex fiscal reasons, there is a paucity of antivenom in sub-Saharan Africa. To address the plight of thousands of snakebite victims in s...

Comparison of Pasteur and Behringwerke antivenoms in envenoming by the carpet viper (Echis carinatus).

Bites and envenoming by the carpet viper Echis carinatus are common medical emergencies in parts of Nigeria, but the most effective use of the various commercially produced antivenoms in treatment has not been established. Pasteur Paris Echis monospecific and Behringwerke West and North Africa Bitis-Echis-Naja polyspecific antivenoms were compared in two groups of seven patients with incoagulab...
